Fitness 101: Equipping the Next Generation of Physical Educators

Fitness is becoming a necessary component of a Health and Physical Education (PE) Curriculum. The sedentary habits and resultant poor health of our youth has created a need for a PE curriculum that sets all students up for success. Educators recognize that focusing on fitness, devoting time to teaching and engaging in structured exercise, are effective strategies for meeting student learning outcomes and promoting a lifelong habit of physical activity.
The goal of this seminar is to fully equip educators to effectively implement fitness into their classes. Educators must be armed with current fitness principles to properly prepare students to adopt a physically active lifestyle. They need to understand how to design intelligent fitness activities and deliver them in purposeful, inspiring ways.

The Art of Training: Delivering the Last 10%

Successful personal trainers must do two things: design fitness programs intelligently, and deliver them effectively. Many devote their continuing education efforts to the first half of this equation, increasing their own scientific and technical knowledge. While this is important, it neglects the significance of skilled, thoughtful delivery for effective personal training. How trainers communicate with their clients to teach, coach, motivate, and ultimately get results is central to the success of any program. We refer to this as the “art of personal training,” and without it, no amount of knowledge can make you a good trainer.
The purpose of this course is to examine and improve how you practice of the art of personal training—that is, how you actually conduct your training sessions. It will focus on the idea of “purposeful cueing,” providing clients with effective and goal-oriented cues and interactions. Through this course, you will learn about the role of communication in personal training, and you will be given specific techniques, tools, and strategies to improve communication with your clients. Finally, you will learn a series of our favorite exercises, complete with purposeful cueing techniques to meet a variety of client goals.
