What is the Focus Point of the Week (FPOW)?
The FPOW is your tool for increasing student engagement in healthy behaviors. Every week One on One publishes a new health, fitness, nutrition, or lifestyle related topic. These 1-2 page articles are fresh, compelling, and relevant for students in secondary education. Every FPOW includes a reflection for students that makes them think critically about the topic leading them to action, and to finish there is a suggested application section for teachers to ensure that students actually practice the topic.
Why is it valuable?
It is designed for action. The FPOW increases comprehension of key health concepts by motivating students to practice healthy behaviors outside of the classroom. Any tool that teaches content and moves students to action is a valuable one. In addition to quality content, the FPOW adds value to the curriculum without adding extra prep time for the teacher.

How to use the FPOW in the classroom:
- Post in your classroom (basic)- Read the FPOW and post it in your classroom every week. This is the most basic way of educating students about topics.
- Use as a central theme (recommended)- Center your lessons around the FPOW. For example, the FPOW titled, “Eating a Balanced Breakfast” could be a good lesson in your nutrition unit.
- Use as a compliment (recommended)- Use the FPOW to add value to an existing lesson. For example, the FPOW titled, “Squatting” could be a good resource for students as they are practicing proper weight lifting mechanics.
